About Us

The Ride of Silence is held the 3rd Wednesday in May, at 7 PM*. It honors those bicyclists that have been killed or injured in a bicycle/motor vehicle crash.

May is Bike Month, but it also is the month when the first Ride of Silence was held on May 21, 2003, in White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas.

On May 4, just 17 days prior to the first ride, Larry Schwartz was riding his bike when he was struck and killed by the Mirror of a school bus that passed him while out riding.
